Major for Reserve Winners at Nationals
At the recent AKC Delegates Meeting, September 11, 2012, an amendment to Chapter 16, Section 1, of the Rules Applying to Dog Shows was adopted. Effective January 1, 2013, there will be a new three point major for the dog designated Reserve Winners Dog and Reserve Winners Bitch at one National Specialty each year, specified by the Parent Club, provided there are at least twice the number required for a five point major in the winner’s sex. The Parent Club would have the option of not providing the additional major.
The highlights of the new rule are:
The Parent Club would designate which single National Specialty each year in the case of the Parent Clubs that have multiple National Specialties (or rotating National Specialties) in a year.
There has to be twice the number of dogs present that are necessary for a five point major in dogs and/or bitches at the designated National Specialty that will have Reserve Winners eligible for the three point major. Best of Winners will not be applicable if either sex is short the required number present at the specified National Specialty.
The Parent Club decides whether or not they will award a three point major for Reserve Winners at their National Specialty.
