Clark County, Nevada, to Consider Pet Sales Restrictions

The Clark County, Nevada Board of Commissioners is expected to consider changes to its animal control ordinances at its Tuesday, October 17th meeting.  The proposal seeks to restrict sales of dogs and cats at pet stores to those obtained from an animal shelter or rescues organization. Area residents are strongly encouraged to contact Clark County to oppose this onerous measure.

The American Kennel Club (AKC) emphatically supports freedom of choice in selecting a pet. AKC actively promotes efforts to ensure that people are educated, understand the demands of responsible ownership and have access to a pet that is right for them. AKC strongly opposes any measure that restricts choice by compelling people and/or retailers to obtain pets solely from shelter or rescue distributors.

The Clark County proposal is similar to ordinances seen throughout the country, including in many localities that do not have pet shops, that is part of a radical, nation-wide agenda that seeks to limit animal breeding and sales.  For more information, read Why Pet Shop Laws Affect You.

Concerned area residents are strongly encouraged to contact the members of the Clark County Board of Commissioners and express concerns with the proposal and attend their meeting tomorrow, October 17th, at 10am PDT (Agenda Item No. 49), to express concerns in person.
