Mother and Daughter From South Yorkshire Crowned UK’s Best Dog Breeders at Crufts

A dog-breeding mother and daughter team from Doncaster, South Yorkshire have won the Kennel Club Breeders’ Competition at Crufts, the world’s greatest dog show.

Joan Scarll and her daughter Sue Sykes, whose team comprised Ch Timazinti Liberty handled by Sue, Ch Timazinti’s Kienke handled by Joan, Ch Timazinti’s Britskii at Kenida handled by Ida Watts, and Timazinti’s Peppermint at Frenchlands handled by Lina Schuckardt, won the ultimate breeder’s title with their team of Lhasa Apsos in front of a packed Resorts World Arena at the NEC, Birmingham yesterday, Friday 6th March. The team beat 35 other breeders to win the competition.

Judge, David Guy selected Joan and Sue’s team of Lhasa Apsos for the prize as the breeder with the best overall quality evident in their dogs. Each team comprised three or four dogs of one breed, all bred by the same breeder or breeding partnership.

Speaking about the win, Joan said: “For me, this is the best thing ever. These dogs have won 29 Challenge Certificates between them and I am very proud of that.

“Dog shows are a good hobby to get involved in. They can be a lot of fun when people make them fun. Whether we win or lose, we are always coming home with the best dogs.”

Reserve best breeder was awarded to Mrs Kath Storey with her team of Pugs (kennel name Rhodenash).

Vanessa McAlpine, Crufts Show Manager, said: “We are very pleased for Joan and Sue on their excellent achievement. Joan and Sue are very talented breeders who put the time and effort into developing sound breeding practices to produce healthy and happy dogs for the show ring. Their dogs are testament to their hard work and dedication to the breed.”
