Wellness Natural Pet Food Announces Major Recycling Milestone: 100,000 Bags of Pet Food Recycled Through Partnership with TerraCycle

The pet food industry has been making strides toward a more sustainable future, and helping lead the charge is Wellness® Natural Pet Food. The brand announced today that it has recycled 100,000 bags of pet food through its free recycling program with TerraCycle®. The milestone comes just as the country gears up to celebrate America Recycles Day on Nov. 15.

“This milestone means a lot to us at Wellness because it reinforces the fact that our pet parents share our enthusiasm and commitment to making the industry—and world—a little bit greener,” said Chanda Leary Coutu, Director of Consumer Experience at Wellness. “Our partnership with TerraCycle can only be as successful as our community of pet parents make it, and knowing they have recycled 100,000 bags through the program is a tremendous accomplishment that everyone who contributed a bag should be proud of. We look forward to celebrating their next achievement as new pet parents join and grow the program every day.”

TerraCycle’s Wellness Natural Pet Food Recycling Program allows any Wellness® Complete Health®, Wellness® CORE®, and Holistic Select® flexible plastic pet food packaging to be collected at participating retailers and other community locations. Once collected, the pet food packaging is shredded and formed into plastic pellets that can be remolded to make new recycled products—everything from lawn chairs to playground equipment.

The program also allows participants to earn points that can be redeemed for a donation to a non-profit or school of their choosing.

Wellness Natural Pet Food was the first U.S.-based pet food company to partner with TerraCycle, and this latest recycling milestone caps off a year of environmental accomplishments for the natural pet food maker. Earlier this year, Camelle Kent, CEO of WellPet, the parent company of Wellness Natural Pet Food, was appointed to the strategy advisory board of The Pet Sustainability Coalition(PSC), where she helps strategically support PSC’s mission to accelerate pet businesses through environmental and social impact.
