Royal Canin and Vet Set Go Launch Third Annual “Become a Veterinarian Camp Contest”

Three Aspiring Veterinary Students Will Win a Spot at Auburn University’s Junior Vet Camp

As part of the company’s ongoing commitment to the future of the veterinary industry, Royal Canin, a global leader in pet health nutrition, has partnered with Vet Set Go, the first and only community dedicated to aspiring teen and tween veterinarians, to launch the “Become a Veterinarian Camp Contest.”

This year’s “Become a Veterinarian Camp Contest” is open now through March 29, 2019, and offers students entering sixth through eighth grade, who are interested in the veterinary profession, the chance to win one of three coveted spots at Auburn University’s Junior Vet Camp from July 14–19, 2019. The prize includes free tuition, meals, and housing. Every student who enters will receive free access to the Vet Set Go “Become a Veterinarian Quiz” which helps identify personalized recommendations for each aspiring veterinarian to gain professional experience.

According to The New York Life 2017 Imagination Survey of children 12 and under, veterinarian was the second most popular future career, behind medical doctor.  In fact, many current veterinarians knew from a young age that they wanted to enter the field.

“Like many of my colleagues, my love for animals and desire to help them was awakened at a young age,” said Dr. Laura Pletz, Scientific Services Manager at Royal Canin. “In early elementary school, I remember being so appreciative of the veterinarian who cared for my puppy when he broke his leg. I dreamed of being able to provide that same level of care for all animals, which is the moment I knew I wanted to be a veterinarian. I never strayed from that passion and would have loved to have had the opportunity to participate in a program such as Junior Vet Camp.”

Three grand prize winners will be chosen to attend the camp to learn about veterinary medicine first-hand in classrooms, laboratories and outdoor facilities. These dedicated students will learn about public health, food, animals, wildlife, anatomy, x-rays, and first aid as well as gain valuable mentoring about veterinary science careers while on the campus in Auburn, Ala. Throughout its 125-year history, the Auburn University College of Veterinary Medicine has produced more than 6,400 veterinarians and more than 500 specialists and researchers.

“The passion for pursuing a veterinary career often begins from the simple love of animals,” Dr. Chris Carpenter, Founder and President of Vet Set Go, explained. “It is incredible to watch the passion that our youth holds for pets, and we are thrilled to be able to support their dreams. With the help of Royal Canin, we can provide opportunities that they will remember for a lifetime.”

To enter, students can share their personal story on why they want to become a veterinarian and include a photo of them helping or enjoying time with animals. Students, with the help of their parents, can enter the contest at vetsetgo.com/about/become-a-vet-camp-contest-2019 between March 1 ? 29, 2019.
