Table Talk – June 20, 2018

While making the journey between the shows in Blackfoot, Idaho and Billings, Montana, I had the opportunity to check out Yellowstone National Park and take another item off my bucket list!  With the re-configuration of the Idaho/Montana circuit, we had enough time to take a full day and drive through Yellowstone.  Even though the skies were overcast and we had a bit of rain, the day was incredibly enjoyable!!  I strongly recommend that you make this part of your plan when attending the Idaho/Montana circuit.  This should be a bucket list item for all!  Thank you so much to my friends Ann Viklund and Annie Balotti for a most enjoyable reunion and journey through what I consider one of the wonders of the world.

The Pocatello Kennel Club and Eagle Rock Kennel Club continued with the past year’s tradition of providing a barbeque for exhibitors on Friday and a pig roast/luau on Saturday.  Kudos to these clubs for going out of their way to improve the exhibitor experience!

The Tampa, Florida shows had an increased entry this year and the cluster committee did an excellent job of accommodating the entry.  While the groups may have been a bit later than folks would have liked, the feedback on the cluster has been very positive.  I hear the cluster committee did an outstanding job of addressing the air conditioning issue that occurred on Saturday by getting a repair team as soon as possible, handing out water, and getting fans to circulate air while waiting for the air conditioning to be repaired.  Kudos to a hard-working committee that had the exhibitors’ and dogs’ best interest at heart!

The Grass Valley shows held in Valley Center, California this past weekend went to five days this year, which increased their entry to 1,000-plus.  This circuit is proving to be a bit of competition for the Blackfoot, Idaho circuit.

Sydney Good’s impending retirement is now a reality. Her last weekend was at the Tampa circuit.  I am sure everyone joins me in wishing Syd all the best in the next chapter of her life. I am sure that you will continue to live life to the fullest.  Here is to many happy, healthy, enriched years ahead!  Mike Szabo is now Florida-bound and those in the Midwest will see AKC’s newest rep, Lynn Meyer, at shows in the coming months.

Bob and Marietta Shreve celebrated 60 years of wedded bliss this past week.  All the best to you lovebirds.  May you enjoy many more happy years together.

David Williams is out of the hospital and recuperating from his abdominal surgery at his sister’s house.  I hear he is being a fantastic patient while working very hard to recuperate as soon as possible.  Everyone’s prayers and outreach has been instrumental in David’s progress thus far.  Keep the positive thoughts coming!

Jorge and Susie Olivera celebrated Jorge’s 50th in style with a birthday bash on Sunday night.  Among those that helped celebrate Jorge’s big day were Val Nunes-Atkinson, Antonio Viidmar, Janice Hayes, Jake Haycock, Lauren Hay-Lavitt, Benjie Marcus, David Murray and Shane Hooper.  I’m sorry I missed the celebration and wish you another 50 years of health and happiness my friend!

Also celebrating birthdays this week are:  Patty Haines, Linda Robey, Vicki Seiler-Cushman, Perry Payson, Jim Frederiksen, Derek Glas and Angie Long.

I leave you guys with the positive thought of the week:  If you just want to walk fast, walk alone, but if you want to walk far, walk together.  The six best Doctor’s in the world are sunlight, rest, exercise, diet, self-confidence and friends.  Maintain them in all stages of life and enjoy a healthy life!

Be kind to one another my friends, and wherever your travels take you, please be careful!

Until next time…
