Table Talk – February 6, 2019

Let the annual pilgrimage to the East Coast city that never sleeps begin! Many fanciers are making their annual trip to New York for the Super Bowl of dog shows! For those of you who cannot be with us in person in New York, we will do our best to make you feel like you are there. Be sure to check our Canine Chronicle Facebook page and CanineChronicle.TV for Table Talk Live! coverage from New York. We look forward to keeping all of our friends updated with the events at the Piers and surrounding hotels. We will also be updating our CanineChronicle.com website regularly throughout the weekend and on Monday and Tuesday with breed judging results.

If you are in search of tickets for any of the Westminster week events, check our website at www.caninechronicle.com for links to purchase tickets.

One of the frustrations we hear from participants of the National Owner Handler Series is that they feel they are not a priority as it relates to ribbons and trophies. There are a few clubs that are making a renewed effort to address this concern. As an example, the Oakland County Kennel Club–who recently held their shows during the Novi, Michigan weekend–gave group prizes of $50 and a Best Owner Handler in Show prize of $250. A big thank you to the members of the Oakland County Kennel Club for making this statement about the NOHS division. Please know that your generosity and consideration did not go unnoticed and was very much appreciated!

I am pleased to pass along good news from Marti Johnson who has been spearheading the efforts with the Solano County Board in Northern California regarding allowing dog shows to be held at the Solano County Fairgrounds. At the meeting held on February 5th the following statement was made: “The meetings here are not about IF there will be dog shows at the (Solano County) Fairgrounds. There WILL be Dog Shows and other events going forward, it is just a matter of who will run them, whether it is the current fair board or another organization.” A big thank you to Marti, the residents of Vallejo and Solano County, and Robert Miller for speaking to the County Board!! This is a great example of enthusiasts banding together to ensure a positive outcome! Well done everyone!

The Great Dane who went Winners Bitch at the Lake St. Louis Kennel Club on Saturday a couple weeks ago tested positive for the parvovirus immediately following the show on Saturday. The dog was removed from the grounds immediately upon showing clinical symptoms and taken for testing.

Hills® Pet Food Company had a fairly large recall on canned veterinary diet products. If you feed Hills® canned prescription diet, please contact your vet clinic or retailer where it was purchased to ensure you are not feeding the affected product.

Our best wishes to Erika Lanasa’s better half, Chip, after his open-heart surgery this past week. Now the rehab begins. Healing thoughts to him for a speedy and full recovery. Hang in there, Erika! We will all be here when you are done taking care of things at home.

We are saddened to report the death of Bulldog fancier Rick Mouser and Irish Setter fancier Elizabeth Duddy. We express our condolences to their family and friends at this most difficult time.

Free reserved grooming reservations for the Louisville cluster in March are open now! Please be sure to reserve your space–free of charge–to ensure you have a grooming spot when you arrive. Email Nina Fetter at: Louisvillegrooming@woh.rr.com. As of a couple of days ago, there were a few RV spots available. If you are interested in reserving an RV spot, please contact the fairgrounds directly at 502-367-5380.

Celebrating birthdays during Westminster Week are: Katie Bernardin, Erin Hall, Jane Myers (my favorite 6 months of the year! Jane is older than me for the next 6 months!), Arvind, DeBraganca, Kathy Kjetsaa, Larry Cornelius, Janet Harner, Billy Wheeler, Erika Busby and Allan Brown.

Be safe in your travels my friends. We look forward to seeing you in the Big Apple!! Until next time…
