Table Talk · October 23, 2019

The Harvest Moon Cluster, which includes the Del Valle Kennel Club and San Mateo Dog Fanciers, was held this past weekend in Pleasanton, California. I am sorry that I missed it for a host of reasons. With an entry on the largest day (which happened to be Sunday instead of Saturday) of 1801, three days of all breed shows and one day of large specialties, the cluster volunteers cease to disappoint with a great dog show weekend. A baby shower in honor of Conor McFadden and Olivia Hodgkinson’s upcoming arrival was held on Saturday night and I would have loved to be there to celebrate with them. My heart was certainly there. Watching the videos and live streaming of the show truly warmed my heart as I saw the fancy band together and offer support to the McFadden tribe.

There will be a celebration of Keegan McFadden’s life on Tuesday, October 29th at Lake Camanche’s North Shore, Eastridge Campsite at 4 pm. For those who would like to attend, the address is Camanche North Shore, 2000 Camanche Road, Ione, CA 95640. Bring chairs and a jacket, as it gets cool at night. For those who would like to honor Keegan’s life, the McFaddens are requesting donations to Take The Lead (www.takethelead.org), an organization that means the world to them.

I was sad to hear that AKC judge and Italian Greyhound Fancier William Usherwood passed away. Our thoughts are with his family and friends at this difficult time. He will be missed by the fancy.

Congratulations are in order for Dylan Kipp-Keith and Chris Keith as they welcomed their baby girl, Sloan, into the world on October 19th! I hear she weighed in at 7lb. 15oz. and Mom and baby are doing great!

We will miss seeing Anita O’Berg at the shows for a bit as she fell and suffered a plateau fracture while playing with her dogs. Hurry back to us, Anita, and take care of you!

I have seen several new exhibitors posting on social media looking for handler assistance. I always respond and tell them to please make sure to check references! It is encouraging to see many new people interested in showing their dogs, and we want these folks to get a positive experience! Please join me in encouraging folks to do research about the individual to whom they plan on sending their dog. With social media and internet searches, it is easy to do a quick search about the individual to see if anything questionable might turn up.

Happy Anniversary wishes to Alex and Mathew Mossotti, Patrina Walters O’dette and Bruce O’dette, and Tim and Lisa Thomas! May you all enjoy many more years of wedded bliss!!

We have several friends celebrating birthdays this week. They are: Ethan Coye, Annie Balottti, Jill Bell, Keith Pautz, Joe Berkau, Melissa Engelking, Michael Brantley, Juliet Clendenon and Debbie Scott.

If you have not looked into joining your local kennel club, now is as good a time as any my friends!

Have a great time out there, my friends. My thought for this week: Don’t blame a clown for acting like a clown. Ask yourself why you keep going to the circus. Until next time…
