Hiram College Offers $1,000 Scholarship Opportunity to Terrier-Lovers

Calling all terrier-lovers! Hiram College announces the Terrier Scholarship: a one-time $1,000 scholarship awarded to five incoming Hiram students who have – or love – a terrier.

To apply for the scholarship, students should take a picture or a 15-second video of themselves with their terrier, or a terrier they love. Creativity counts! Submissions should show what makes terriers special: how they are a part of the family, a best friend, a fast-learner – and more.

“The Terrier Scholarship is our way of paying tribute to our long-time mascot, the bull terrier, and rewarding prospective students for their creativity and drive to become a Hiram student,” said Vice President of Enrollment Lindajean Heller Western. “We know how special our Terrier is, and now we want to see what makes other terriers great!”

Hiram will accept Terrier Scholarship applications from now through Dec. 31, 2015. A panel of Hiram media and photography specialists will choose five scholarship recipients based on the creativity and originality of photo and video submissions. Scholarship recipients will be notified and publicly announced in February 2016.

In order to receive the scholarship, students must apply, be accepted and attend Hiram College beginning in fall 2016. While Hiram’s mascot is a bull terrier, the scholarship is open to owners and fans of any breed of terrier.

“Applying to college and going through the financial aid process can be stressful for many students,” said Western. “This scholarship shows students that it doesn’t have to be scary – it can be fun! They say a picture is worth a thousand words but, in this case, it could be worth $1,000.”
