Table Talk

Greetings from not so sunny Reno, Nevada! I’m here for the Rottweiler National. It sometimes baffles me why a breed club would hold a very large, successful regional on one side of the country (Colonial Rottweiler Club is always held in Lancaster, PA the first week of May) and try to hold their National clear across the country less than two weeks later. While not a party to any club politics (thank goodness), I see this logistic challenge as only potentially hurting the National Specialty entry. Last year both shows were held at the same venue within the same time frame in Lancaster, PA and the entry was more than triple what each specialty entry was this year. It is my sincere hope, for the club and exhibitor’s sake, that these clubs will re-evaluate their decision to operate so independently.

I was so happy to hear that Johnny Shoemaker is out of the hospital and doing better! We truly missed his presence at PCA this year where he was supposed to steward for the esteemed Poodle expert, Judge Frank Sabella.

I was saddened to hear of the recent passing of retired judge Carol Esterkin. I remember showing my Greyhound, Molly, to Carol many years ago.

On another sad note, Judge Arlene Benko passed away last week. Arlene was a favorite amongst the local exhibitors in her home state of Florida.

Jason Hoke has turned into quite the world traveler! He is back in Asia, this time judging in Japan. Looks like he is being treated very well and has managed to get in some sightseeing, too!

Speaking of world travelers, Rick Beinhauer, the owner of the nation’s top Sporting dog, spent some time in New Zealand where he hunted Red Stag and Wild Ram. As you can see, he found an amazing trophy-quality Red Stag. Rick also found some time in between to do a little fishing, too. It looks like it was quite the trip.

Happy anniversary to love birds Vicki Seiler Cushman and Jeff Cushman. I cannot believe how time flies. We hope you had a very special anniversary dinner!

Celebrating birthdays this week are: Cody Koch, Jay Richardson, Tony Vacha, Kim Rudzik, Bill (Whisky) McFadden, Georgette Schaeffer, Gino Sisneros and Kim Haupt.

I am looking forward to seeing Larry Cornelius in his new Executive Field Rep capacity next week on the Mission Circuit in Southern California!

Best wishes to all for a happy, fun-filled and safe Memorial Day. Good luck out there, and please drop me a line with any upcoming anniversaries, birthdays, trips, etc.!

Until next time….
