Table Talk

Several of our American dog fanciers had the good fortune to attend the Japanese Kennel Club show this past week. This event is truly one of the premier events of the Asian dog show scene. Bill Shelton judged Dobermans, Boxers and Pembroke Welsh Corgis. He and Steve visited Japan’s Disney World, among other wonderful sightseeing excursions. Andy Linton and Stephanie House were also over there for the Japanese Kennel Club festivities. I hear a wonderful time was had by all.

This past week saw the loss of several of our good friends.

Sadly, the fancy lost Pat Jones who succumbed to a long battle with terminal cancer. My most sincere condolences to Chris, along with the rest of her family and friends. Pat and Chris bred Papillons together under the Wingssong kennel prefix. Chris has beautifully presented their dogs and it was always great to see the proud look of Pat sitting ringside watching her dog and her daughter.

Well-known judge Monica Canestrini passed away after an extended illness. Monica was a long-time breeder of Dachshunds and judge of the Hound, Non-Sporting and Herding groups. Our thoughts are with Monica’s friends and family.

Manuel Miyares, past Chair of the Biloxi cluster in Mississippi, also passed away recently. Many of you remember Manuel as a great friend of the outstanding judge and dog man, Carlos DeBango. They used to travel together. We extend our sincere condolences to the Miyares family.

Quinn (Skip) Harned, who bred Anatolian Shepherds under the Sakarya Kennel name, passed away this week after an extended illness. Our thoughts are with his wife of 47 years, Marilyn, and their family and friends.

Congratulations to Mary Grace Kocab on her first Junior Showmanship class this weekend! What a natural! She placed first in a large class that was not split by age. Way to go Mary Grace!

Its tax time guys!!!! You have a 2-day reprieve because tax day falls on the weekend!
