GROUP and BEST IN SHOW JUDGES Talk About Their Choices in Their Own Words…

After the AKC National Championships in Orlando, Florida on December 16-17, the Canine Chronicle asked the Group and Best In Show judges to comment on their groups and placements. The National Championships recognizes owner-handlers and breeders with its Bred By Exhibitor Best In Show and National Owner-Handler Series finals; those judges submitted their comments as well.

THE SPORTING GROUP

The Sporting Group judge, Robert Stein of Chapel Hill, North Carolina, described the breed winners who entered his ring as “very strong, as expected, with [the show’s] large entries, fine quality and depth.” He continued, “It was a great pleasure to judge the Sporting Group at this show and my thanks to all involved.” His placements were:

Group One:
GCHP. Silverhall Strike Force
ASCOB Cocker Spaniel
Bred by W.S. Pike and B.S. Pike
Owned by Regina Beinhauer and Carolee Douglas
“He is a lovely dog with a merry and free temperament—extremely well-bal- anced, sound, and with a gait that moved freely. This dog has great attitude and never lets down.”

Group Two:
GCHS. Whiskeytown Genesee On Tap MH
Wirehaired Pointing Griffon
Bred by M. Withrow and K. Woods Owned by Larry Delaney
“It was nice to have this bitch, as she is the epitome of the breed. She has correct proportions, excellent coat, a gait covering a lot of ground, and great temperament.”

Group Three:
GCHS. Random Legacy Dylan Du Revention
English Springer Spaniel
Bred by D. Rand and J. Douglass
Owned by Robert & Sandra Mockoviak and Kellie FitzGerald
“He is a lovely dog with proper balance, well-proportioned, excellent gait and quite a nice type. He was well made and showed true Sporting Dog characteristics.”

Group Four:
GCHS. Oncore Mykyna Tailgate Party
Pointer
Bred by P. Davis, L. Boyd Davis, and Dr. P.H. Haines
Owned by Dr. Patricia H. and Thaddeus T. Haines and Peggy Davis
“This bitch was an excellent type, pos- sessing stamina and powerful movement. She is well-balanced and really looked the part of a fine Pointer.”
