Tonka The Therapy Dog Goes The Extra Mile During Covid-19 Closures

Bianca Ayala bred and co-owns a very special Great Dane, “Tonka”, with Courtney Leigh. Tonka is Ayala’s fourth generation of careful breeding, but he is particularly unique as he is her first titled therapy dog. Tonka has  certification to assist in schools, courtrooms and in hospitals as a Therapy Dog. He is a favorite therapy dog in the Cedar Park, TX community, especially at the Cedar Pointe Health and Wellness Suites. Owner, Courtney Leigh and Tonka make trips to the nursing home on a regular basis.

To prevent the spread of Covid-19 many nursing homes including Cedar Pointe Health and Wellness Suites are closed to any outside visitors or family.

Courtney and Tonka did not allow these restrictions to stop them from spreading smiles and joy at Cedar Pointe. They continued their therapy work by making visits with residents through windows. Residents have made signs to express their excitement and gratitude for their visits and even reach out to touch Tonka through the window. Tonka’s signs to the residents reads “We Miss You” and “We Love You”.

Ayala notes how proud she is of Courtney and Tonka and their efforts to go above and beyond during these uncertain times. She believes that Therapy Work is undoubtedly Tonka’s purpose. She also told us that he was raised and immersed in the Puppy Culture program and believes this gives her Great Danes a wonderful foundation of being stable in any environment.

Thank you to Bianca for sharing this heartwarming story with us. Courtney and Tonka have made our community very proud! Well done!
