The fancy is mourning the loss of the great dog man, James Mitchell. Jimmy had a long and successful career in the sport, and he was loved and respected by all that had the pleasure of crossing paths with him. I was fortunate to have a short visit with him in February in Madison, Wisconsin. Jimmy’s role in the sport was diverse: Early on he worked as an Assistant for great handlers such as Bill Trainor and Anne Rogers Clark. He later worked as a Show Superintendent, an AKC Executive Field Representative and a Judge. No matter what job he was doing, he did it with an incredibly calming demeanor and was always kind to everyone.
Jimmy is remembered by his friends for not only his incredible knowledge of dogs, but for his incredible sense of humor and his loyal friendship. Sincere condolences to Doug, and the rest of his family and all the friends he has left behind. He will be sorely missed by the fancy.
Healing thoughts to Kim Lourier who has experienced some complications in her cancer battle. Kim has demonstrated the most amazing positive attitude and perseverance through her journey. Our thoughts are with you, Kim. We look forward to having you back running left-handed circles soon!
Heartfelt condolences to Peggy Beisel-Mcilwaine, who recently lost her sister. Peggy has experienced an incredible amount of loss recently, so please be sure to give her a hug if you see her. Our thoughts are with you at this most difficult time, my friend.
I mentioned last week that I was attending the Labrador Retriever Club of the Potomac. I frankly did not know what to expect and from the moment I arrived I was in awe! The LRCP did a special mentoring session for approved Labrador Judges which was well-attended and enjoyed by all the participants. Desi Murphy said, “The Specials had the most depth of quality I’ve ever witnessed!!” What an amazing opportunity to talk dogs with some of the breed’s experts and witness a depth of quality that is second to none! If you have not had the opportunity, please be sure to check out some of the Table Talk segments from Potomac week. I had the opportunity to visit with some winners, judges, and hard-working Potomac volunteers! Most importantly, I’d like to give kudos to a community of people that is supportive of each other and kind to all! Thank you to everyone who made me feel welcome and made my week enjoyable–and productive! If you have not had the opportunity to attend the Potomac, I strongly encourage you to add it to your bucket list.
Congratulations to Bert Rettick who returned to the ring with her Boston Terrier! There has been some speculation that Bert is not well due to a significant weight loss, but she is FINE! Bert’s weight loss is due to hard work! No drugs, no surgery, and fortunately, she is not sick! Way to go, Bert! Enjoy showing your dogs!
Benjie Marcus and Andrew Evans are beginning a new chapter in their lives. They left California for their new home in Georgia! Benjie and Andrew have spent the last several weeks saying goodbyes to their West Coast friends. Your friends will miss seeing you every week, but those fanciers in the Georgia area will welcome you with open arms! Safe travels to you both, and best wishes to you on the next chapter of your lives.
The volunteers of the Steel City Kennel Club in Crown Point, Indiana worked hard to make the best of a serious venue faux pas. As mentioned last week, the fairgrounds made an error and double-booked the buildings that the shows have been held in for years. Fortunately, the weather gods were on their side and the best possible outcome was enjoyed by all who attended these shows! Most exhibitors brought their positive attitudes which made the weekend even more enjoyable.
Happy Anniversary to Shaun Garrity and Todd Jacobs! Best wishes for many more happy, healthy, prosperous years ahead my friends!
Fanciers celebrating birthdays this week include: Brian Livingston, Dottie James, John Ramirez, Benjie Marcus, Kevin Mason, Alyssa Booth, Rosie Steinke, Brianne Rock, Bryan Martin, Linda Teitelbaum, Courtney Norris, Chrystal Murray, John Magneau, Sandra Groeschel, Tiffany Skinner and Payden Steele. May all of you have a most awesome trip around the sun and a day filled with friends, family, and happiness.
Please remember this my friends: Dreams become Reality when Thoughts Become Actions!
Be safe in your travels! Enjoy the moment! I will see you soon down the road. Until next time…
